Australia's cotton industry has welcomed the passage of changes to the Water Act through Federal Parliament, which will grant an additional year to find water-saving projects to implement the Murray Darling Basin Plan (MDBP).
 
The legislation changes the operation of the Sustainable Diversion Limit (SDL) Adjustment Mechanism with the intention of eliminating water purchases in the Southern Basin.

Narrabri landowners' appeal of Santos water treatment facility begins in NSW

Landowners from Narrabri on the state's north west slopes are asking the NSW Court of Appeal to overturn a decision that gives the green light to a controversial water treatment facility. 

Gas giant Santos has been given approval to operate the facility, which would treat wastewater and brine from coal seam gas exploration activities near the Pilliga State Forest.

Murray-Darling report confirms what some northern NSW communities have known for years

A new Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) report on the socio-economic effects of the removal of water from farming has confirmed what local farmers have known for years.

The Gwydir Valley Irrigators' Association said the report backed evidence on the effects on irrigation and jobs being felt by water users at Moree and Wee Waa.
