More to the Story - The Great Bacon Mystery

It seems they have bigger pigs in Delta, Alabama

An 11-year-old boy used a pistol to kill a wild pig his father says weighed a staggering 476 kilograms and measured 2.74 metres, from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail.  Click Here to read more

This pig below was actually shot in the Cuttabri Area and is the real thing, the photo hangs in the Cuttabri Wine Shanty.  Not as big as the 512 kilo one but it has more truth then the other.

Wee Waa could be on the way to an international reputation for telling porkies - or at least shooting them.  This photo is currently travelling around the internet via email, depicting a massive pig supposedly killed somewhere around Wee Waa.  The huge creature looks like a cross between a boar and a whale, and is attracting interest from all over the world, including a group of Australian soldiers posted in Afghanistan.

The soldiers contacted local resident Kate Schwager through her Wee Waa. com website, asking whether the photo was "fair dinkum".  The Wee Waa News was also contacted by popular men's magazine "The Picture' asking for the story behind the photo.

So, Wee Waa, who is the man in this photo, what's the story behind the pig, and what kind of mortar/anti-tank missle was required to take it down?  Let us know on 67921011 or jjrobinson@nwcourier.com.au

Comments so far that I have had

Kate...please let us know the result of this quest!! Have printed off the photo and will do some detective work for you.....looks ALMOST true doesn't it??!!!!!

Kate
I received that email the other day but not from Afghanistan. I can't remember where it came from so it must be doing the rounds at the moment.

Sorry I can't help but that's a very big pig.  Must have come out of the Pilliga Scrub.  Now that National Parks have taken over I'm sure there will be some monsters out there.

Dear Kate
We have seen this picture also in the last few weeks.  I'm sure everyone wants to claim that it came from here!  It was passed on to us by a friend who works at the Department of Ag in Orange but facts on it's original starting point are scarce but we are asking more questions.  We have also seen the photo published in the Queensland Country Life 2 weeks ago.

Hi Kate, I have just had a few of the students have a look at the photo. They think that this photo was taken near Collerenebri or Come By Chance, it weighed 500 odd kilos.

Hi Kate,  Funny thing about that pig!!  The first time I received that photo it was supposedly of a pig shot in the Pilbara Region, WA and it weighed 512kg.  The second time was in a different location, but the weight was the same.  Interesting that it has now turned up in Wee Waa.  It is obviously becoming a "rural" myth.

hi kate
we received that email about two weeks ago from my cousin in tamworth. we were told that the pig was caught up near darwin on a property. they say the people up there thought there was something big out there as there dogs were going missing so what are to believe

Hi Kate,
Very interesting request.... can't help you as I don't recognise the person or vehicle.... have you had any replies of people that do?

Interesting comments you can make of it what you like but it would be better if we new who the man was in the photo.  One of those things that will always remain a mystery.
